The Sacred Heart community began Lent Wednesday with a day of recollection offered by Fr. Duane Wachowiak, the seminary's director of liturgy and liturgical formation.
The day began with a morning Ash Wednesday Mass, and was followed by presentations related to the Year of Mercy declared by Pope Francis. He discussed corporal and spiritual acts of mercy, and how they could be applied to parish ministry.
As part of his presentation, Fr. Wachowiak asked seminarians, faculty and staff to write their names on pieces of paper and put the paper into a bowl. At the end of the program, each participant drew a name out of the bowl, and was asked to pray for the person whose name he or she drew.
