Dr. Dan DiDomizio, a Cardinal Stritch University emeritus professor of religious studies, is the 2015 recipient of the Archbishop Cousins Award.
Dr. DiDomizio was instrumental in the development and growth of the Pre-Theology Undergraduate Program Agreement between Sacred Heart Seminary and School of Theology (SHSST) and Cardinal Stritch University.
This program, first established in the 1990s, is rare, if not unique, among Catholic seminaries in the United States, and has made SHSST attractive to many bishops and vocation directors seeking a program of priestly formation for strong candidates who do not have a bachelor’s degree. Such students live at Sacred Heart and participate in human, spiritual and pastoral formation programs at the seminary, while traveling to Stritch several days a week to take certain undergraduate classes as they work on the requirements for a bachelor's degree. (Candidates without a bachelor's degree are typically required to complete their undergraduate studies at a college before entering the seminary.)
DiDomizio was a professor of religious studies at Stritch until the spring of 2015. He served as the primary contact and advisor for all SHSST pre-theology undergraduate seminarians attending Stritch. He worked closely with the director of pre-theology academics and on behalf of the seminarians in the combined B.A./M.Div. Program, both during their semesters on the Stritch campus, and in their subsequent course work at SHSST, until they received their bachelor’s degree from Stritch.
He holds an S.T.L. degree from St. Thomas Aquinas College, and an S.T.D. degree from the Institute Catholique de Paris
Sacred Heart's Board of Directors bestows the Archbishop Cousins Award annually to honor an organization or individual who has demonstrated distinguished effort, involvement, and promotion of vocations among men over 30 to the Roman Catholic priesthood. The award was established by Sacred Heart Seminary and School of Theology to commemorate Milwaukee Archbishop Cousins’ 60th anniversary of priesthood and to recognize his leadership role in promoting vocations.
