The Very Rev. Msgr. Ross A. Shecterle delivered the first day of recollection of the 2012-2013 school year at Sacred Heart, entitled, The Language of Beauty: Spirituality of the Fine Arts. Msgr. Shecterle is Sacred Heart's president-rector.
The day included a morning all-school Mass, morning reflection, afternoon reflection and closing prayer for seminarians, other students, faculty and staff.
In his reflections, he stated, "This day of recollection is about beauty and the importance that art and aesthetics play in the life of a Christian and, in particular, the formation of men for the priesthood of Jesus Christ.
"Being intentional with engaging in the fine arts - and language, for that matter - is an attempt to help us reconect with something that is fundamentally human: experiencing beauty as a doorway to God," he said.
Sacred Heart does not conduct classes or business on days of recollection. Rather students, faculty and staff alike take time to participate in reflection and prayer, both guided and private.
