Sacred Heart's October 2011 Dehon Lecture was a creative exploration of the new translation of the Roman Missal facilitated by Fr. Duane Wachowiak, director of the Secretariat for Worship and Liturgical Formation for the Diocese of Gaylord, Mich.
The presentation was held in conjunction with the 2011 SHST Alumni Gathering. While most alumni had had exposure to the new missal, Fr. Wachowiak's presentation took an integrative and more creative approach. With a method of mystagogy, he led an examination of the kinds of issues raised with this new translation. Taking the definitions used by Pope Benedict XVI in “Sacramentum Caritatis”(2007) and the GIRM, he examined presiding and related issues through a unique lens.
The afternoon featured facilitated small-group discussions on a variety of topics, followed by a plenary wrap-up.
Fr. Wachowiak is a 1998 SHST grad and currently serves on the seminary’s Board of Directors.
